SAN DIEGO (Aug. 27, 2012) – FOX Sports San Diego announces it is sponsoring the local San Diego chapter of After-School All-Stars (ASAS) and will kick off the partnership tonight with a formal check presentation of $50,000. This generous sponsorship marks the first charitable gift for FOX Sports San Diego.

ASAS is a leading non-profit organization that provides comprehensive programming to middle school children in 13 cities across the U.S. Greater San Diego After-School All-Stars serves more than 4,000 students in 20 schools throughout San Diego County by providing free academic assistance, extracurricular enrichment programs, and sports activities five days a week. Its mission is to provide free, quality comprehensive after-school programs that keep children safe and help them succeed in school and in life.

Prior to tonight's Padres match-up vs. the Braves, Henry Ford, senior vice president and general manager of FOX Sports San Diego, will present Tyree Dillingham, executive director of ASAS San Diego, with the $50,000 sponsorship check on-air during the Padres Live pre-game show held at Petco Park's "Park at the Park".

"We're delighted to support such a wonderful program. After-School All-Stars does so much for the youth in our communities. We see this as a natural way for FOX Sports to help make a difference among school aged children and teens in San Diego," said Ford.

The entire Padres vs. Braves telecast will focus on After-School All-Stars and the impact the organization has on the youth of this community. The evening begins with a special edition of Padres Weekly airing at 5:30 p.m. The segment will feature two ASAS students, Myra and Jeff, and how the program has influenced their lives.

"Funding for after-school programs is needed now more than ever before, and the support that FOX Sports San Diego has given will help bring after-school programming to more students in need and contribute to their future and the success of our entire community," said Tyree Dillingham, executive director of San Diego After-School All-Stars. "We're so grateful for FOX Sports San Diego's contribution and for the once-in-a-lifetime experience they have created for our students with the Padres tonight."

Students currently enrolled in ASAS's programs will participate in the on-air instructional held at the whiffle-ball field at Park at the Park and enjoy the game in FOX Sports San Diego's seats throughout the ballpark. Three chosen students will receive the ultimate game-day experience, sitting in FOX Sports San Diego's premium seats behind home plate and will be given behind-the-scenes access to the broadcast booth and television truck.
