LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Austin House pitched seven shutout innings and DJ Peterson homered to lead New Mexico to a 4-0 victory over San Diego in the opening game of the Los Angeles Regional on Friday.
House (8-5) struck out five and gave up six hits as the Lobos won their 10th straight game. Michael Wagner (5-2) took the loss for the Toreros (40-16).
Peterson, the fourth-leading hitter in the nation with a .418 batting average, had four hits. His 17th homer of the season in the ninth inning upped the lead for the Lobos (37-22) to 4-0.
Hobie McClain relieved House with one on and no outs in the eighth. He gave up a single to the first batter he faced and then retired the Toreros' 3-4-5 hitters to get out of the inning. He earned his third save.
The Toreros left nine runners on and were shut out for the fourth time.
