Q&A on Time Warner/FOX Sports SD deal

Q: Are negotiations still on-going with Time Warner Cable?  If so, how close is FOX to securing a deal with these providers?

A: Unfortunately we are at an impasse in our negotiations.  FOX Sports San Diego and its 150+ Padres telecasts have been offered to Time Warner Cable at a reasonable rate consistent with those agreements with other providers.  Leading distributors like AT&T U-verse, Cox, DIRECTV and Dish have agreed to carry the network.  Sadly for the fans, we have received no indication that Time Warner Cable will agree to carry the network any time soon.

Q: What do I do since Time Warner Cable doesn’t offer FOX Sports San Diego?

A:  We encourage you to contact Time Warner Cable and request that they carry FOX Sports San Diego and its Padres telecasts immediately.

Fortunately, as a consumer, you have choices. For the first time, Padres games are available throughout San Diego on multiple video providers.  Most consumers have the option of choosing a video provider that values Padres baseball and their loyal fans.  To find a TV provider that carries FOX Sports San Diego, please call 1-855-444-3773.

Q: Is it true that FOX is asking a 400% increase?

A: No.  FOX Sports San Diego is a new 24/7, 365 day-a-week local sports network featuring more than 150 Padres games and more than 300 pro and collegiate events including, Los Angeles Clippers basketball, Anaheim Ducks hockey, Big West athletics, San Diego State and University of San Diego programming.  Any comparison to the previous provider is not reasonable.

Q: Time Warner Cable is saying that FOX is not asking a "fair" rate. What does FOX consider "fair" and/or who should we believe?

A: AT&T U-verse, Cox, DIRECTV and Dish have agreed to carry FOX Sports San Diego. Time Warner Cable has been offered a reasonable rate consistent with those agreements with other providers.  AT&T U-verse, Cox, DIRECTV and Dish obviously see tremendous value in offering FOX Sports San Diego, including the Padres and more than 300 pro and collegiate games, to their customers.

Q: If Time Warner Cable accepts a deal with FOX Sports San Diego, will I see an increase in my bill?

A: Video providers decide what to charge their customers.  We are not involved in those pricing decisions.

Q:  I was already getting FOX Sports West and Prime Ticket.  Why does Time Warner Cable also have to add FOX Sports San Diego?

A:  The fact is, Time Warner Cable doesn’t carry Prime Ticket to most of its subscribers in San Diego. And, FOX Sports San Diego is the city's first 24/7, 365 days-a-week local sports network devoted to the San Diego Padres and other area sports teams and events of interest.  More than 150 Padres games and hundreds of hours of other Padres programming are exclusive to FOX Sports San Diego and are not available on other networks.
